Sean Miyashiro is the founder and CEO of 88rising, a Los Angeles-based integrative media company with offices in L.A. and Shanghai. 88rising represents a growing roster of international musical talent hailing from the U.S., China, Indonesia, and beyond. Miyashiro’s company also produces the annual sold-out Head In The Clouds music festival, a showcase of up-and-coming names in pop, hip-hop, and R&B.

Miyashiro launched 88rising in 2015 to elevate Asian and Asian-American youth talent and culture worldwide. 88rising leverages Miyashiro’s deep prior experience as a high-profile talent manager and boasts a robust record label associated with some of the biggest stars in global Asian music: NIKI, Rich Brian, Jackson Wang, Joji, and many others.

Under Miyashiro’s direction, Head In the Clouds has grown into a successful trans-Pacific cultural collaboration. The festival now counts locations in New York City, Jakarta, and Manila in addition to its original Los Angeles confab. At Coachella 2022, Miyashiro produced the hourlong “Head In The Clouds Forever” set featuring multiple 88rising artists and an unannounced reunion performance by 2NE1, the K-Pop supergroup. 88rising remains the only independent record label to secure a main-stage performance at Coachella.

Sean Miyashiro is also a film and music video producer. His first feature film debuted at the 2023 Sundance film festival. He has several music video credits to his name, including Rich Brian’s “Kids.”

Miyashiro’s soundtrack credits include “Kids,” which appeared on “The Invisible Man” (2020) soundtrack. More recently, he executive-produced the soundtrack to “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” the 2021 blockbuster and first superhero film featuring an actor of Asian descent in the title role. The “Shang-Chi” soundtrack showcases a diverse array of international Asian musical talent and led to a major deal with Sony Pictures TV.

Miyashiro’s recent accolades include a “Changemaker” award at the Unforgettable Gala, an annual event honoring Asian and Pacific Islander (API) individuals who’ve helped advance the API community’s representation in culture, arts, and entertainment. He has appeared in multiple national and international outlets, including the New Yorker, the New York Times, National Public Radio, Billboard, and Business Insider.
